Rumored New StarCraft FPS Not Destiny-Like, Gameplay Closer to Space Marine 2

New details have recently emerged about the upcoming third-person shooter set in the StarCraft universe. The project's core focus is a complete single-player campaign and co-op missions, with an expected official reveal at BlizzCon 2026, scheduled for September 12-13.

Recently, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier revealed that this title is unlikely to be a live-service game similar to Destiny. Subsequently, Windows Central editor Jez Corden shared that, based on early Pre-Alpha footage he viewed, the game features cutscenes, full voice acting, high-fidelity realistic graphics, and an art style distinct from the cartoonish rendering of World of Warcraft.

Reportedly, the game features third-person combat, with gameplay comparable to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, while also incorporating some design elements from Far Cry. It is not a co-op loot shooter like Helldivers 2, but will include multiplayer modes similar to Gears of War: E-Day. Multiplayer is considered supplementary content, with the full single-player and co-op campaigns being the main focus of the game.

The game boasts an impressive development team, led by former Far Cry series core producer Dan Hay, with Drew Murray, former Associate Design Director on the Perfect Dark reboot, joining as Associate Design Director. Players speculate that the new title may pay homage to the classic cancelled project StarCraft: Ghost, but it will not replicate the original's stealth-focused development approach.

Blizzard has previously attempted to develop StarCraft-based shooters twice, with both StarCraft: Ghost and the codenamed "Ares" project being cancelled. This marks Blizzard's third attempt to adapt the StarCraft universe into the shooter genre. Long-time fans have mixed feelings, eagerly anticipating a fresh take on the IP while worrying about potential development changes once again.
