Hidetaka Miyazaki: Developing the Same Type of Game Repeatedly Becomes Tedious; Learn to Change

FromSoftware is undoubtedly one of the most influential studios in the gaming industry today, and this is no accident. As the development team behind hit games like Elden Ring, Sekiro, and Bloodborne, they are currently busy preparing their new title, Bloodborne.

Bloodborne took a completely different approach to multiplayer gameplay, highlighting FromSoftware's more experimental side. In fact, Hidetaka Miyazaki believes that diversity and interesting creativity are at the core of the studio's game development philosophy.

In an interview with The Guardian, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that repeatedly making the same type of game becomes tedious. He believes that fun comes from changing the rules rather than sticking to familiar patterns.

"FromSoftware doesn't deliberately pursue any specific slogan. If we started doing that, we would become stale and conservative."

The developers pointed out that FromSoftware itself does not have a fixed game development model. Instead, the team usually starts with ideas they find interesting and uses them as a guide for development.

This is why games like Elden Ring: Nightreign and Bloodborne have only recently ventured into multiplayer modes. Similarly, titles like Sekiro showcase FromSoftware's exploration of stealth gameplay. The team even experimented with first-person perspective back during the Demon's Souls era.

Although there are similarities between these games, FromSoftware ensures that each new release brings something interesting to the table.
