In GTA 6, players will sometimes need to refuel their vehicles, a system that has raised concerns among players about its impact on the game's pacing. In response, Rob Nelson, co-head of Rockstar North, personally demonstrated the system during an interview with YouTuber TGG, assuring that the process is very quick.
During the demonstration, Nelson encountered a car with nearly empty fuel while navigating the map. "This car is low on gas," he said, before heading to the nearest gas station. After the refueling animation finished, his reaction was straightforward: "Refueling is pretty quick, nothing to complain about." However, Nelson acknowledged that this mechanic might receive mixed reactions from the audience, even asking the interviewer, "Let's see what people say. Do you think they'll like it?" YouTuber TGG believed that, in most cases, this system shouldn't pose a serious problem unless players are too careless to fill up before a heist.
According to the head developer, since GTA 6 is set in the modern era, players will be able to steal electric vehicles. However, the interview did not discuss how the charging process compares to traditional refueling, either in terms of speed or the availability of charging stations.
Additionally, the conversation with Rob Nelson revealed details about the game's driving physics. He stated that the team aimed to strike a balance between the heavier, more realistic handling of GTA IV and the arcade-like smoothness of GTA V.
The team worked hard to retain the best aspects of weight and handling from GTA IV while also incorporating the accessibility of GTA V. Everythinggj was built from scratch for this hardware, giving them greater control over tuning the transmission, tires, suspension, and steering; all of these factors are applied to the physics model. Nelson also confirmed that the top speed in GTA 6 will be higher than in GTA V.
The controls are more precise yet remain very accessible. The steering mechanism has been completely redesigned from the ground up. All vehicles feel distinctly different; higher speeds are achievable in faster cars. High-powered rear-wheel-drive vehicles, such as muscle cars and others in this category, are fantastic. However, you need to be slightly careful with the throttle in some of them.
