To Preserve the Original Flavor, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remaster Intentionally Includes Loading Screens

Nintendo recently confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, coming to Switch 2, will deliberately retain loading screens. This design aims to restore the pacing and atmosphere of the original Nintendo 64 title, but it has triggered vastly different reactions within the player community.

During the gameplay demonstration at The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, series producer Eiji Aonuma personally explained this design intent. He stated that loading screens would deliberately appear when players move between game areas (such as from Kokiri Forest to Hyrule Field) to recreate the experience of the original N64 version.

Nintendo emphasized that this was an intentional design choice, not a technical limitation. The remake is scheduled for release this November.

This decision quickly sparked polarized reactions among players:

Supportersbelieve that the loading screen is itself part of Ocarina of Time's historical memory. Preserving it reflects the development team's respect for the "authenticity" of the original and evokes emotional resonance among veteran players.

Criticscriticize that in an era where seamless loading technology is already widespread, artificially inserting loading screens is akin to moving backward, disrupting immersion and game pacing. Some players bluntly stated: "Is sacrificing gameplay experience for nostalgia really worth it?"

Nintendo has chosen to faithfully replicate every detail of the original in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake. Whether players will accept it remains to be seen until the remake officially launches in November.
