Capcom announced that A.K.I., the Year 4 DLC character for Street Fighter 6, will officially launch on October 13. The company also released gameplay footage showcasing his yoga breathing techniques, ranged attacks, and trap abilities.
In terms of backstory, A.K.I. was originally an Indian police officer. After his partner was murdered and he was framed for the crime, he went on the run and has been investigating the truth behind his partner's death ever since.
A.K.I. excels in power but sacrifices some speed. He can deliver powerful strikes through yoga breathing, dealing recoverable damage to opponents even if his moves are blocked; he can also use projectiles and traps to restrict their movement.
His moves include a coiling punch that can chain into follow-up attacks, a forward-dashing shoulder charge, and a breathing technique that creates air rings and turns them into projectiles. A.K.I. can also blow into the ground to raise earth pillars, adjusting the distance with different button strengths, or holding the button to delay the pillar's activation.
Some moves can combo together. After A.K.I. makes contact with a raised earth pillar using his shoulder charge, he can grab the pillar and swing it in different directions. He also has a command throw that normally only deals recoverable damage; however, if the opponent has already accumulated such damage, it can cause additional normal damage.
A.K.I.'s defensive capabilities can be enhanced by strengthening his muscles through yoga breathing, turning close-range attacks into counters. His three Super Arts correspond to rapid consecutive attacks, launching opponents into the air followed by placing earth pillars, and disrupting the opponent's inner ear before initiating a cinematic attack.
Players who own or purchase the Year 4 Character Pass or Year 4 Ultimate Pass can unlock A.K.I. on October 13. Costume 1 reflects his appearance during his fugitive revenge phase, while Costume 2 showcases his idealized image after abandoning his pursuit of justice; the latter can be unlocked by maxing out the acquisition gauge in Arcade Mode or using Fighter Coins.
A.K.I. is the second character released in the Year 4 roster. Other characters in this year's lineup include Tifa from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, Bosch, and Yasmin, who has already been released. Street Fighter 6 is now available on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PS4, and Steam.
