Nintendo has officially confirmed the release date for the highly anticipated remake of the classic title The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This comprehensive upgrade of the 1998 classic will launch on November 5, 2026, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The project features a complete visual overhaul, modernized controls, voice-acted cutscenes, and an orchestral soundtrack. The development team has promised to preserve the original's atmosphere while introducing a series of new mechanics, including free jumping, dashing, an improved camera system, and the ability to hum melodies into the microphone. However, the focal point of community discussion is Sheik's new design, Link's mysterious ally. In this new version, the character sports long braided hair, delicate makeup, and more feminine body proportions, along with a golden harp.
This decision has sparked mixed reactions among fans. Some players criticized the changes, calling them "cowardly and regressive." To those dissatisfied, the new look too obviously reveals the character's identity, stripping away the androgynous mystery of the original design. Meanwhile, other users praised the new design, considering the model "stunning" and appropriately feminine, given that the character is indeed a girl.
The debate quickly escalated into broader discussions about gender representation, fidelity to classics, and the boundaries of creative freedom when rebooting classic series. Although Nintendo had already clearly indicated in the original game that Sheik is female, the reaction to the more "overtly feminine" design suggests that this topic remains extremely sensitive for some audiences.
