Reports suggest that Ubisoft has begun remastering several classic titles from the Assassin's Creed series, with recent indications pointing to the original Assassin's Creed as the likely next candidate for a remaster.
According to the official Assassin's Creed Steam store page, Ubisoft has been quietly updating the game for several months.
The most interesting recent update is that Ubisoft seems to have updated the game's cover image on Steam, replacing the iconic Assassin's Creed key visual with a more modern cover.
The new art design also changed the game's logo, with the "Assassin's Creed" text now adopting a font similar to that used in Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Remastered. Interestingly, many games that players hope will be remastered, such as Assassin's Creed II, have not undergone similar changes on the platform.
Undoubtedly, Ubisoft would not update assets for such an old game without reason. What's more intriguing is that previous leaks suggested Ubisoft's team might be working on a remaster of the original Assassin's Creed.
Next month marks the 20th anniversary of the series. If the development team returns to the original Assassin's Creed, it would be a perfect celebration of Ubisoft's achievements with the IP so far.
