The Final Fantasy Series 40th Anniversary Exhibition, "Endless Fantasy World," will be held from January 8 to April 4, 2027, at the Hyokeikan Gallery of the Tokyo National Museum. This exhibition will also mark the first time series works are combined with the museum's cultural properties.
The exhibition will begin with the series' first title released in 1987, reviewing its 40-year history through classic scenes and music from past installments. New titles such as Final Fantasy XIV: Frozen and Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will also be introduced, alongside immersive experiences that allow visitors to feel the game worlds in real space; specific details will be announced in due course.
Collaborative exhibits featuring museum collections include a pairing of the Peacock Wisdom King statue with Joshua Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI, and Utagawa Hiroshige's "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō: Nihonbashi" with Radz-at-Han from Final Fantasy XIV. Themed cards related to these pairings will be distributed as purchase bonuses in limited quantities across the three exhibition periods.
The Hyokeikan Gallery opened in 1909, featuring Western architectural styles, and is now designated as an Important Cultural Property. The organizers stated that Final Fantasy also began with Western medieval fantasy before gradually incorporating Eastern designs and sci-fi elements, a shared characteristic that served as the backdrop for selecting the Hyokeikan Gallery as the venue.
Pre-sales for the first batch of tickets began at 15:00 on September 10, 2026, via the Square Enix Members app, covering visit dates from January 8 to February 5, 2027. All tickets require a specified date and either a morning or afternoon time slot. The limited-quantity "+9999 Goods Set" includes a framed badge set featuring logos from throughout the series' history.
The exhibition is generally closed on Mondays, except for certain holidays and specified dates. This event is co-hosted by the Tokyo National Museum and the Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Exhibition Executive Committee. Information regarding ticket sales and bonuses for the second and third phases will be announced later.
