Some of Arthur Morgan's coughing sounds in Red Dead Redemption 2 were not solely reliant on acting. Actor Roger Clark recently revealed that he voluntarily entered the studio while suffering from a cold to capture authentic coughing素材 for the character.
In response to a question from game journalist and video creator Kade Under about whether the coughing scenes strained his voice, Clark stated that the actual recording process was not as difficult as one might imagine. The work was spread out over five years, and for scenes requiring intense coughing, the team usually scheduled them at the end of the day's recording session.
Clark noted that catching a cold multiple times over five years was inevitable, allowing the team to acquire plenty of highly realistic sound material. He would specifically request to record lines while having a cold to make Arthur's cough and overall sickly state sound more natural.
Recalling the situation at the time, Clark remembered telling the recording team, "I have a cold, let me in to record," and the staff would agree. As a result, some of the final audio retained the authentic characteristics of his cough while he was sick.
Arthur Morgan contracts tuberculosis during the game's story, with his cough becoming more pronounced as the illness progresses. Clark's recent revelation indicates that these manifestations of sickness combine long-term, phased performances with authentic recordings made while the actor had a cold.
