Foreign Media Criticize Marvel's Wolverine for Insulting Players' Intelligence

Insomniac Games' controversial new title, Marvel's Wolverine, has ultimately stumbled, receiving mixed reviews from the media. Outlet Skill Up criticized Insomniac, calling the design of its latest work, Marvel's Wolverine, "an insult to players' intelligence."

In their review, Skill Up criticized the game's overall experience for being overly hand-holding. The game features many explicit clues to help players navigate through a strictly linear and relatively small environment. For example, a blue path connected to Wolverine guides players to the next objective, and this blue navigation trail cannot be turned off.

Similarly, Insomniac sometimes adds individual markers along this path to remind players of the route they must take. After combat, Logan also delivers monologues to remind players of their current objectives.

Furthermore, Marvel's Wolverine uses classic splatter techniques during parkour sections, spraying paint onto the environment. All of this has drawn criticism, with Skill Up even suggesting that the game assumes players are idiots.

"The design philosophy of Marvel's Wolverine assumes players are extremely stupid."

Additionally, reviewers criticized the QTEs in Marvel's Wolverine, noting that players don't actually need to press any buttons to play. Quick Time Events (QTEs) cannot fail because the game has auto-completion assistance enabled by default, and there are no real failure states for these cinematic prompts.

Rumors suggest that Insomniac's next Marvel adaptation, potentially an X-Men title, may be in jeopardy.
