Nintendo has officially announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, showcasing various changes through gameplay demos and a release date trailer. The new version retains the original's main framework while adding modernized designs such as jumping, free camera control, and quest guidance.
The original lacked a dedicated jump button; Link would typically auto-jump when running off edges, with landing spots easily influenced by angle and camera perspective. The remake introduces a dedicated jump button, giving players more direct control over movement and landing positions, making it easier to explore high places for treasures.
Camera controls have also been adjusted. While the original didn't use fully fixed camera angles like Resident Evil or Dino Crisis, it still restricted viewing directions in certain areas. The remake removes these restrictions, allowing players to freely rotate the camera, enabling Castle Town and the Temple of Time to be viewed from more angles.
The new version also adds a guidance feature called "Timeline," which helps players check their next objectives and current story progress. The accompanying minimap provides more detailed information, allowing players to mark the next quest location; as players advance through the game, related tapestry content will gradually unfold.
Castle Town has been further expanded compared to the original. Areas that were previously pre-rendered backgrounds are now fully accessible spaces with new characters and dialogue added. Local NPCs also provide new rumors and mini-games, offering more exploratory content for players revisiting the area.
Voice acting is another significant change in this remake. Link still won't have regular dialogue lines, retaining only action sounds and cheers; however, most other characters will now feature full voice acting with adjusted dialogue. Gameplay demos and trailers have already shown some voice clips, presented in a style similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
