At the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard officially announced Diablo V, the next mainline entry in the Diablo series, and released its first conceptual trailer. The game is scheduled for release in Spring 2029 and is currently in early development.
Game Trailer:
The story of Diablo V takes place one hundred years after the events of Diablo IV, marking an unprecedented shift in the series' lore: Sanctuary has completely fallen, Diablo has emerged victorious, and the heroes of old have all perished. While previous entries focused on players striving to prevent the apocalypse, Diablo V begins with the apocalypse already a reality. With no safe towns or havens remaining, players must survive in a wasteland consumed by darkness. The core theme poses the question: When the entire world has fallen, what will you become?
The trailer released during the opening ceremony was purely a conceptual teaser, showcasing burning towns and wastelands overrun by demonic creatures, with no actual gameplay footage. Blizzard has not yet revealed playable classes, gameplay mechanics, or a complete platform list. More details on the lore and classes will be disclosed at the BlizzCon panel "Diablo V: Forging the Next Era".
PCGamer noted that Blizzard's decision to announce the new title more than three years before its release is a rare move in the company's history. The developer promised to continue providing seasonal updates and DLC for Diablo IV while players wait for Diablo V, ensuring content for existing players. Additionally, Netflix is developing a Diablo animated series. Diablo IV is coming to Switch 2, and the new class "Amazon" will launch in the first half of 2027.
