Remastered PSP Classic Visual Novel: PC Recommended Specs Are Unbelievably High

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair launched on PSP in Japan in 2012. As the second entry in this cult-hit horror visual novel series, its PS Vita version arrived in North America two years later. More than a decade on, the remake—Danganronpa 2x2—is heading to modern platforms, boasting PC recommended specs that are nothing short of absurd.

The remake was originally scheduled for release this fall but has been delayed to January 14, 2027. However, developer and publisher Spike Chunsoft has already revealed the PC system requirements ahead of schedule. The announcement sparked widespread confusion among players: while the minimum specs call for just 8GB of RAM, the recommended configuration demands an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU and 32GB of RAM.

PSP经典视觉小说重制版 PC推荐配置离谱得超乎想象

One player quipped, "A visual novel requiring 32GB of RAM? What gives? At least let Nagito Komaeda step out of the screen and give me a kiss to justify these specs."

What makes this especially baffling is that none of the released gameplay footage from the remake shows any reason for such hefty memory demands. The core presentation consists of character sprites moving over static backgrounds, accompanied by scrolling dialogue text. Either Danganronpa 2x2 hides an entirely different game within it, or it's poised to become the worst-optimized visual novel in history.

Adding to the irony, this specification reveal coincides with a sharp surge in memory prices. When Danganronpa 2x2 was first announced, 32GB DDR5-5600 RAM kits cost under $250; today, they approach $1,250. On the bright side, Spike Chunsoft still has time to halve its memory requirement. Earlier this year, TT Games set a precedent with LEGO Batman: The Dark Knight Saga, which initially listed 32GB as recommended before cutting it in half prior to launch.

Of course, even if Danganronpa 2x2 follows suit and adjusts downward, 16GB of RAM would still seem high for this title—after all, it's not an open-world game packed with destructible LEGO objects. Perhaps the biggest mystery surrounding this remake isn't who will be murdered, but why it's so resource-intensive on PC.
