Blizzard announced that a new animated series based on Diablo is in development at Netflix. In addition to this project, the company is also discussing cross-media adaptation plans for its IPs such as Overwatch and Warcraft.
Blizzard President Johanna Faries confirmed the news of a Diablo animated series during the opening keynote at BlizzCon 2026. Currently disclosed details do not include specific information such as the show's setting, creative team, or release date.
When discussing other adaptation projects, Faries stated that Blizzard is actively in discussions around Overwatch, Warcraft, and other titles. She described Diablo as "just the beginning" and said the company will share more details when the time is right.
In recent years, Microsoft, Blizzard's parent company, has continued to push its game IPs into the film and television space. The Minecraft movie and the Fallout TV series have already been released, while the live-action Sea of Thieves film is currently in production.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stated that Xbox does not aim to become the largest traditional provider of film and television content, but emphasized that great games are themselves part of culture and entertainment. She also mentioned that there is growing interest from external parties in collaborating with Xbox to develop adaptations of its titles.
At this stage, Blizzard has only confirmed that the Diablo animated series is in development at Netflix; Overwatch, Warcraft, and other IPs are still under discussion, with no specific projects officially announced yet.
