Sony Demands Developers Halt Release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered PC Multiplayer Mod

The PC multiplayer mod for "The Last of Us Part II Remastered" will not be released as planned. Developer Speclizer revealed that he recently received a letter from Sony Interactive Entertainment requesting that the mod not be launched.

Speclizer stated that development on the mod began in January 2026 and was originally scheduled for release in September of the same year. He announced the cancellation on September 13, expressing his deep disappointment.

The mod aimed to add multiplayer gameplay to the PC version of "The Last of Us Part II Remastered," allowing players to experience content similar to the "Factions" mode. However, the developer has not disclosed specific completed features, and the mod never reached an official release stage.

The original "The Last of Us" featured a 4v4 multiplayer mode called "Factions," which was not included in "The Last of Us Part II." Naughty Dog.exe had previously decided not to retain this mode in the sequel, so Speclizer attempted to showcase its potential form in the sequel through a mod.

As of the cancellation announcement, Speclizer's YouTube channel still hosts development demo videos of the mod, offering a glimpse into what the project originally intended to achieve. There is currently no news regarding the mod's potential revival.
