Rockstar has adopted a different approach for showcasing GTA 6. Due to the game's extensive content and gameplay features, the team felt that a traditional gameplay trailer would be insufficient, ultimately opting for a nearly 27-minute demonstration instead.
This demo was released in late August, focusing on the game's mission flow and open-world gameplay. In contrast, when Rockstar introduced GTA V in 2013, they used an approximately five-minute gameplay trailer, a format later adopted for Red Dead Redemption 2 as well.
Andy Cortez from Kinda Funny Games attended a special preview event for GTA 6 and spoke with Rob Nelson, co-head of Rockstar North. According to Cortez, Nelson confirmed to the media and content creators present that the team intentionally chose to forgo the traditional narrated gameplay trailer this time.
The team's main challenge was how to fit the game's vast content into a standard trailer. Since so many events are constantly happening in GTA 6's world, many gameplay elements and details would not be adequately showcased if compressed into a short clip, so a longer demonstration format was quickly adopted.
The final reveal featured a mission sequence as the main thread, interspersed with short clips of random events in the open world, before cutting back to another story scene. The version shown at the event was not fully complete, but it was very close to the final form.
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. Rockstar also plans to release a PC version, but no specific release date has been announced yet.
