The initial media reviews for Trails in the Sky the 2nd have been released. The PC version currently holds a score of 93 on Metacritic, temporarily making it the highest-rated new release of 2026 on the site.
At the time of data collection, the PC version's score of 93 was based on 10 reviews. The PS5 version included 13 reviews with a score of 92, while the Switch 2 version scored 84 but had fewer reviews. As more reviews continue to be added, scores for each version may still change.
On OpenCritic, which aggregates reviews across different platforms, the game currently also holds a score of 92. Based on existing data from both rating sites, Trails in the Sky the 2nd ranks among the top new releases of 2026.
This is the second title in Nihon Falcom's remake plan for the Trails in the Sky series, with the original game being nearly 20 years old. The first remake in the series, Trails in the Sky the 1st, was released in 2025 and received similarly positive reviews.
The president of Nihon Falcom previously stated that the performance of Trails in the Sky the 1st has encouraged the company to continue its remake plans for some time. Trails in the Sky the 2nd is scheduled for official release on September 17.
