"Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX" was available for demo at the Konami booth at TGS2026, showcasing changes to new cards, 3D characters, and partner decisions. Producer Yuji Matsumura confirmed that approximately 200 additional cards have been added so far, while partners utilize decision-making logic that has been continuously updated over the past 18 years.
This title is a remake of "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX: Tag Force 3," released in 2008, set in the world of the anime of the same name. Players can interact with characters at Duel Academy, increase trust through duels and mini-games, and team up with partners for battles. In Tag Duels, two teams of two compete, with teammates sharing zones such as the field and graveyard, and taking turns during their phases.
Matsumura noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the series' first release. The team considered merging and remaking the first three titles, but due to the excessive scale, they ultimately chose to base the remake on the third installment, which synthesized elements from the previous three games. The remake features 3D character models, adds activities like fishing, and adjusts some of the original mini-games.
The additional cards are primarily those that appeared in the anime but had not yet been released as physical cards at the time of the original game's launch. The team evaluates each card individually to determine if the character used it in the anime and whether it improves the functionality of the corresponding archetype, rather than including every card from a popular theme.
For newly added high-power cards, the team mainly balances them by limiting the number that can be included in a deck, while avoiding restrictions so strict that the cards become unusable. Some cards remain unplayable due to system limitations; card effects generally follow errata versions, meaning the duel environment in this title is not an exact recreation of the original era.
In the demo, partner Jaden Yuki can use traps set by the player in advance to counter attacks. Matsumura stated that one of the goals of this improvement was to have partners assist newcomers and demonstrate how decks function, with related implementations still being adjusted. Characters have voice lines when summoning their Ace monsters, and the "Destiny Draw" system highlights key draw moments with close-ups and dialogue.
The game also adds an easier "Casual" mode, allowing players to learn dueling by observing other characters' actions. The demo version initially features the seven characters showcased, with the roster eventually expanding to over 100 characters as progress is made.
