Indie game studio MIRAGEHOUSE has announced that the pixel-art casual fishing game Kasaburo's Secret Fishing Spot will participate in the Steam Next Fest in October 2026, with a demo available during the event. The game adopts a desktop pet format, allowing the protagonist, Kasaburo, to accompany you on your desktop for leisurely fishing sessions anytime.
The development team stated that the game's visuals use frame-by-frame drawing and sub-pixel animation techniques, aiming to recreate the nostalgic grainy feel and detailed expression seen in games like Metal Slug. The game is positioned as a relaxing, healing, and desktop companion experience, requiring no continuous complex inputs from players.
The game includes a "Play Mode" and a "Focus Mode." Players can switch to a simpler interface while working or idling to minimize obstruction of desktop content, and easily return to the full gameplay interface when ready to continue.
Fishing bait cannot be purchased directly; players must raise various types of insect bait themselves to attract and catch rarer fish. In addition to waiting for bites, raising bait is one of the core gameplay elements.
Drinking different types of alcohol grants temporary buffs and may cause Kasaburo to "zone out" to other regions, where he can encounter mysterious merchants and trigger special events. However, excessive drinking comes with penalties, so players must manage their consumption carefully.
The game also features random events and fun Easter eggs, including the "OK Glove Fishing Float" inspired by popular internet memes. Kasaburo's Secret Fishing Spot is scheduled to participate in the Steam Next Fest in October 2026, with a demo available at that time.
