Epic Games has confirmed that its launcher recently played voice notifications more frequently than expected and is currently preparing an update to limit alert sounds to more necessary events. Over the past few days to weeks, some PC users have suddenly heard unexplained ringing or notification sounds, likely originating from the Epic Games Launcher running in the background.
According to Fortnite insider FireMonkey, these Discord-like notification sounds are related to the Epic Games Launcher. Sounds may be triggered by party members joining or leaving, receiving messages, changes in lobby join permissions, or activating push-to-talk in the game's voice chat feature.
Since these interactions occur continuously in the background, notification sounds may repeat frequently. Epic Games did not previously issue any notice or warning about adding these sound effects, making it difficult for users to identify the source of the sounds within their currently open applications, leading to confusion.
FireMonkey also mentioned that manually deleting the relevant audio files only provides a temporary solution. These files may be restored when the Epic Games Launcher receives subsequent updates, so this method cannot permanently disable the alert sounds.
As discussions grew, the official Fortnite Status account responded that the team had received relevant feedback and confirmed that these voice notifications were playing more widely than originally intended. Epic Games is preparing an update to reduce unnecessary sound triggers.
Many users also hope the launcher will add a standalone option to permanently disable all related sound effects. The official adjustment direction currently confirmed is to narrow the trigger scope for alert sounds; no release date for the update has been announced, nor has it been confirmed whether a master toggle to disable them will be provided.
