Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher, has confirmed that he has begun writing a new novel featuring Geralt as the protagonist, with a target completion date of 2027. When discussing the potential for further exploring Geralt's early years, he stated that the possibilities are "limitless."
Sapkowski revealed at the Copernicon convention in Toruń, Poland, that the outline for the new book has been finalized and he is actively writing it. Specific plot details have not yet been disclosed, but the protagonist has been confirmed.
When asked by readers if he considered writing novels centered on other characters such as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Sapkowski ruled out this direction, confirming that the next work will still focus on Geralt of Rivia.
His previously released prequel novel, "Crossroads of Ravens," told the story of an 18-year-old Geralt. When asked if there was still room to delve deeper into Geralt's formative years, Sapkowski responded that "the sky is the limit." However, he has not confirmed whether the new book currently in progress is also a Geralt prequel.
In addition to novels, Sapkowski is also considering revisiting short stories. The early Witcher series work, "The Last Wish," was presented in short story format. He believes that writing good short stories is not easy; crafting a clear and logical narrative within approximately 8,000 words is even more challenging than writing a novel.
Currently, the title, timeline, and publication schedule for the new novel have not been announced. Sapkowski has completed the outline and is now focused on writing, aiming to finish the manuscript by 2027.
