Creator Simulates Minecraft Self-Completion: Ender Dragon Falls After ~1.975 Billion Years

Creator RedLogic deduces a no-input completion of Minecraft through Monte Carlo simulation. The results show that, given specific initial conditions, in-game creatures can complete a series of key steps through random behavior, defeating the Ender Dragon after approximately 1.975 billion simulated years.

A normal completion requires entering the End, first destroying the End Crystals that restore the Ender Dragon's health, and then killing the Ender Dragon. In-game creatures could theoretically facilitate this outcome, but they cannot craft Eyes of Ender or place them in portal frames, so the world generation must include a pre-activated twelve-eye End Portal.

Since it's impossible to let the game actually run for billions of years, RedLogic compresses creature behavior into random variables, estimating the average time required for key events to occur through extensive sampling. The simulation uses the world seed "-535646876083114041", and its video visualizes this probabilistic path.

The entire completion chain first relies on Endermen transporting pumpkins in snowy biomes and placing them on snow blocks to spawn snow golems. The snow golems then need to reach the area near the underground portal, attract Creepers, and cause them to explode to break blocks and clear the path to the portal.

After entering the End, Endermen must place blocks to create pathways for more snow golems. When snow golems attack moving Endermen, they occasionally destroy End Crystals; once all crystals are gone, Creepers must enter the End and be detonated by snow golems when the Ender Dragon flies nearby to inflict damage.

The simulation does not calculate millions of tiny random actions individually, but instead samples to estimate how long it takes for a key event to occur, such as an Enderman moving to a specific location, picking up a pumpkin, or passing through a portal. The routine behaviors of creatures thus form different probabilistic paths, ultimately leading to necessary outcomes like the Ender Dragon entering the damage range precisely when a Creeper explodes.

By year 34,777 of the simulation, an Enderman begins carrying a pumpkin, and it takes another ~2,000 years for the first snow golem responsible for clearing the path to spawn. It takes 2.9 million years for an exit to appear on the other side of the End Portal; after one snow golem destroys the first crystal, it wanders the End for another 18 million years before destroying the next. Approaching 250 million years, the Ender Dragon has only lost about 2% of its health, and is finally defeated after roughly 1.975 billion years.
