The UK PlayStation Store recently introduced new wallet balance rewards: some players receive store credit directly after purchasing specified PS5 games. Sony has not yet officially announced this mechanism.
A Reddit user was preparing to purchase Blood of the Dawnwalker during a promotion when the store page indicated that completing the purchase would grant a $10 balance. The user later confirmed that the corresponding amount had been credited to their PlayStation Store account after buying the game.
Another UK player encountered a similar reward, with the PS5 games involved including Star Wars: Squad Zero, Resonance: Legacy of A Plague Tale, and Halloween. Current information indicates that this mechanism offers purchase discounts for specific games, and not all items are eligible for balance rewards.
Compared to the previous PlayStation Stars, this mechanism appears more straightforward. Players do not need to complete activities or challenges; simply purchasing eligible games will add the reward balance to their PSN account.
PlayStation Stars originally allowed players to earn points and redeem rewards, but the service experienced multiple outages before Sony ultimately shut it down in 2025. The new prompt appearing in the UK store suggests that PlayStation purchase rewards may be returning in another form, although Sony has not yet confirmed the specific rules or future plans.
