A player reported that their MSI GeForce RTX 5080 16G Ventus 3X graphics card stopped working after testing unofficial DLSS 5 in a modded version of Grand Theft Auto V. Currently, there is no evidence confirming a causal relationship between this test and the GPU failure.
Reddit user "wax469" stated that the graphics card had been functioning normally for about a month. After approximately five minutes of testing, the screen began flickering continuously, and the computer subsequently failed to boot.
After switching to the integrated graphics of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor, the player's PC booted up normally; however, reinstalling the RTX 5080 caused the issue to reappear. According to the user, a replacement GPU of the same model has not exhibited any further problems.
At the time of the failure, the graphics card was running at default settings without overclocking. The player was using a heavily modified legacy version of Grand Theft Auto V, with DLSS 5 injected via an unofficial tool; NVIDIA has not released DLSS 5 for this game.
There are no photos showing physical damage to the graphics card in the available information, and it cannot be ruled out that the card had a manufacturing defect that only manifested under load. Therefore, it remains unconfirmed whether unofficial DLSS 5 was related to this failure.
