Sideshow has unveiled a new Gengar-themed diorama statue, showcased at the PokémonXP 2026 event in San Francisco. The piece reinterprets the classic image of this first-generation Pokémon by depicting Gengar manipulating two Shadow Balls simultaneously.
The evolution line of Gengar, Gastly, and Haunter was introduced in 1996. Although there are now over 1,000 species of Pokémon, this original trio remains highly recognizable and continues to appear in new games, merchandise, trading cards, and other products.
The new statue retains Gengar's familiar purple body, red eyes, and grinning expression, with the main changes focused on its move representation. Each hand holds a Shadow Ball, giving the overall composition more depth than a standard standing pose. This dual Shadow Ball design is a playful artistic interpretation of the character's moveset; it does not represent a new form of Gengar or any change to the game's lore.
Sideshow also revealed a new Mewtwo statue at the event. Currently, the price, dimensions, pre-order date, and release window for the Gengar statue have not been announced. Interested fans can register with Sideshow to receive updates on its upcoming release.
During the Pokémon 30th Anniversary celebrations, several initiatives have refocused on early-generation characters. The Pokémon Trading Card Game recently released the "30th Anniversary Celebration" expansion set, featuring nearly 200 cards, including 30 different Pikachu cards and a classic collection of 30 cards. An art book compilation covering Pokémon games from across the generations is scheduled for release in December.
