"Game of Thrones: Battles of Westeros," a real-time strategy game developed by PlaySide Studios, has been confirmed for release on Steam in early 2027. Set in Westeros, familiar to TV series viewers, the game features Daenerys and her dragons as well as the Night King leading his army of White Walkers, allowing players to change the story's outcome through combat.
The game's previously announced release window was late 2026, but it has since been delayed to 2027. During Gamescom in August, the development team reaffirmed that the game is planned for an early 2027 launch and unveiled a new trailer during the Opening Night Live event.
The new trailer highlights endings that differ from the original story. Players can control Daenerys and her dragons, or lead the Night King and his undead army against other factions. Both sides possess unique abilities suited to their characteristics, and ultimately either Daenerys or the Night King may ascend the Iron Throne.
The game features three major houses: Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen. Jon Snow and Arya serve as commanders for House Stark, while Jaime Lannister and the Mountain represent House Lannister in battle. Each house and army features asymmetric design, with different unit types and abilities.
The gameplay follows a classic real-time strategy framework, requiring players to acquire and manage resources such as gold to expand their armies. Controlling territories generates influence and increases corresponding points, while faction differences directly affect how players deploy troops and compete for map control.
These branches don't continue a brand-new story, but instead let players re-drive the original conflicts. For example, the character who defeats the Night King could become Jon Snow; the Night King might also emerge victorious, conquer Westeros, and claim the Iron Throne. The game is currently scheduled for release on Steam in early 2027.
