Epic Games confirmed that its launcher's sound notifications triggered more frequently than expected and is currently preparing an update to narrow down the playback scenarios. Recently, some PC users encountered random ringtones and notification sounds of unknown origin, which likely came from the Epic Games Launcher running in the background.
Common software such as Discord, Steam, and Gmail have highly recognizable notification sounds, allowing users to quickly identify their source. However, this unfamiliar sound did not clearly indicate which program it came from, leaving many players unsure of its origin.
Fortnite leaker FireMonkey stated that the recent Discord-like notification sounds originate from the Epic Games Launcher. They play in various situations, including when party members join or leave, when messages are received, when lobby join permissions change, and when push-to-talk is enabled in game voice chat.
Since these interactions occur repeatedly in the system background, notification sounds may also play frequently. Another cause of confusion is that Epic Games had not previously explained the addition of these sound effects to users.
FireMonkey also reminded users that manually deleting the relevant audio files only provides a temporary solution. These files may be restored every time the Epic Games Launcher receives a new update.
As discussions increased, the official Fortnite Status account responded, thanking users for their feedback and acknowledging that these sound notifications played more frequently than originally intended. Epic Games is preparing an update to ensure notification sounds only trigger for more necessary events.
Some users also hope the launcher will add independent settings to permanently disable all sound effects, expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of explanation when the feature was first introduced. The official adjustment direction currently confirmed is to reduce the scenarios that trigger notification sounds; it has not yet been announced whether a complete disable option will be provided.
