Nintendo of America President Claims: The Journey of Switch 2 Has Just Begun

Recently, Devon Pritchard, President and COO of Nintendo of America, gave an interview to the media. He stated that although the Switch 2 has reached its first anniversary on the market, with global hardware sales exceeding 23 million units, making it the fastest-selling console in Nintendo's history, the console's journey has only just begun.

Pritchard stated that whether it's Nintendo's first-party titles or various games from third-party developers, the platform already offers many exciting experiences. However, there is still significant potential to be explored, and he looks forward to seeing development teams bring more imaginative content to Switch 2 in the future.

Pritchard said, "We are just at the beginning of the Nintendo Switch 2 journey, but we've already experienced some fantastic games, including our own and those from third parties. I can't wait to see what this console brings in the future and what our talented developers will create. That said, establishing partnerships with companies like Sony and Sony Pictures to explore how to bring these gaming experiences to a wider audience—both existing players and fans, as well as new player groups—I believe this will be one of the most exciting things for us in the coming years."

The interview also mentioned plans for the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda IP, including The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remaster, launching on Switch 2 this November, and a live-action Zelda film produced in collaboration with Sony Pictures. The live-action movie is scheduled for release in late April 2027, while the game remaster will launch earlier, together forming key highlights of Zelda's 40th-anniversary celebrations.

Despite the impressive hardware sales achievements, Nintendo does not intend to slow down. The company aims to extend the Switch 2's lifecycle through major first-party titles, new third-party releases, and IP multimedia adaptations, continuously expanding the console's software and IP portfolio. Currently, no further information on unreleased first-party titles has been announced; we must wait for future Nintendo Direct presentations for more details.
