Gerard Butler plays a thief, Tom Wilkinson portrays London mob boss Lenny Cole, Thandie Newton appears as an accountant maneuvering between both sides, and Mark Strong serves as the narrator in the role of Archie, one of Lenny's henchmen. Tom Hardy plays "Handsome Bob," Toby Kebbell portrays rock star Johnny Quid who fakes his death, and Idris Elba appears as the taciturn enforcer Mumbles.
Four years after the release of RocknRolla, Tom Hardy played the main antagonist Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. He later starred as Eddie Brock in Venom, though that film was produced by Sony and featured the character as an anti-hero rather than a traditional villain within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Toby Kebbell played Victor Von Doom in the 2015 reboot of Fantastic Four. The film grossed approximately $168 million worldwide against a production budget of around $120 million and received multiple Golden Raspberry Award nominations, including Worst Picture. Seven years earlier, he had played a rock singer faking his death to escape the public eye in RocknRolla.
Mark Strong's journey through comic book movies was even more winding. He played Sinestro in 2011's Green Lantern, but the film's main villain was Parallax, with Sinestro's turn only revealed in a post-credits scene. In 2019, he portrayed the primary antagonist Dr. Thaddeus Sivana in Shazam!. Prior to that, he had appeared as mob boss Frank D'Amico in Kick-Ass.
Tom Wilkinson had experience playing a DC villain even before RocknRolla. He portrayed Gotham mob boss Carmine Falcone in 2005's Batman Begins, and three years later played the London mob boss controlling the narrative in RocknRolla. Idris Elba joined the cast of Thor three years after the film's release, playing Heimdall.
The end credits of RocknRolla teased a sequel titled The Real RocknRolla, but it never materialized. As the cast members went on to star in comic book adaptations from various studios, the crime film's ensemble formed connections that were unforeseeable at the time of its release.
