Hayden Christensen responded to rumors about a standalone Darth Vader film, stating that he would be happy to return to Star Wars, but emphasized that current reports remain just rumors. He neither confirmed the film nor the signing deals circulating online.
The rumors gained traction in August when Star Wars Gaming claimed that Disney and Lucasfilm were preparing to bring Christensen back, with negotiations for a multi-film deal nearing completion, including a project centered on Darth Vader. These claims have not been confirmed by him.
Before the rumors surfaced, Lucasfilm had already announced a new leadership team, with Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan serving as co-presidents.
When asked about the Darth Vader standalone film during a recent red carpet interview with E! News, Christensen laughed and dismissed it as rumor. Pressed further, he added that he would be delighted to return to the franchise, but reiterated that the news remains speculative for now.
Will Hayden return to Star Wars again?
Christensen previously returned as Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka, appearing as a Force ghost in the latter. These appearances provide context for the recent standalone film rumors.
Existing films and series have already covered the major turning points in Vader's life. The Star Wars prequel trilogy depicted Anakin's fall from an idealistic Jedi Knight, while the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars further expanded on his experiences before his downfall. The original trilogy began with Vader as a cold villain and concluded with his redemption after saving his son, Luke Skywalker, from the Emperor.
As for whether he will portray Vader again, Christensen clearly expressed his willingness to return; however, the talk of a standalone film and a multi-picture deal remains purely speculative at this stage.
