Yesterday, Sucker Punch Productions released a massive update of approximately 30GB, bumping the game version to 2.0 in preparation for the complete edition content launching on October 1. On the same day, the studio also released a follow-up patch without specifying its exact purpose. Today, the developers rolled out another patch, bringing the version number to 2.002, and this update appears to be aimed at removing certain content.
Although Sucker Punch provided no explanation for today's patch, it is confirmed that trophies related to the complete edition and new features for base edition players launching on October 1 have long existed within the game. While players cannot yet access the content included in the complete edition, these assets are indeed present and can even be seen on the in-game map and in the world. One of the upcoming new areas is the "Ashibetsu Foothills," a new location included in the "Strings of Sekigahara" narrative expansion of the complete edition. With today's patch, the outline of this area has been removed from both the map and the game. Prior to this patch, players could see the area even though they couldn't enter it. Of course, trophies related to the complete edition remain, but it seems any parts associated with the new content have been taken down.
For reference, the complete edition will include the "Ghost of Yotei: Strings of Sekigahara" narrative expansion, where the story alternates between modern times and flashbacks to Atsu's era on the mainland. Players will meet Nagato, explore new valleys, experience Atsu's involvement in the Battle of Sekigahara, and gain access to new enemies, new heavy weapons, new armor sets, and new dyes. Another addition is "Ghost of Yotei: Endless Pursuit," a brand-new single-player combat survival mode where players accept bounties to start challenges, defeating enemies to gain buffs and unlock more playable characters. Atsu excels with dual blades, Koyuki specializes in the kusarigama, and Nagato masters the spear. The complete edition also includes all in-game content from the previous Digital Deluxe Edition plus the "Polaris Charm." If purchased before September 30, players can also unlock the "Sakai Armor" early on October 1. Additionally, there are new tracks for Watanabe Mode, new stamps for Photo Mode, New Game+ extra appearances, and related new trophies.
For base edition players, look forward to the new "Beauty of Yotei" mode, which showcases the environment of Ezo like a screensaver, allowing players to relax at home and capture stunning Photo Mode screenshots. Sucker Punch has also added new tracks to Watanabe Mode, which can be used throughout the game when enabled. Confirmed updates also include quality-of-life improvements, such as transmog (retaining armor appearance while using different stats) and new high-contrast accessibility options. The official patch notes are expected to be released on or around October 1.
