Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, recently released on the Switch 2 platform, has received high praise from media outlets, being hailed as a strong return for the series and one of its most polished entries. However, players discovered after launch that the entire game can actually be completed using a single Joy-Con in mouse mode.
This is a pleasant surprise for players using one-handed setups or preferring lightweight controllers. The player tested this configuration throughout an entire route and found no major issues with tactical battles, dungeon exploration, dialogue, or town exploration.
In mouse mode, the right joystick controls character movement, and pressing the joystick resets the camera view. Holding the left mouse button makes the character run; in dungeons, it triggers an attack first before switching to running, and the same input also speeds up battle animations. During dialogue, moving the joystick opens the history log, while pressing any face button brings up the "Adventure Guide." Tilting the joystick left or right switches between submenus.
The only limitation that truly impacts the experience is that the game won't launch unless the left Joy-Con is powered on and paired. If you remove the left Joy-Con and try playing with only the right one, the game gets stuck on the controller connection screen. While understandable from a design perspective, it remains an annoying restriction.
Despite these minor flaws, the setup runs smoothly across various gameplay scenarios. The combination of joystick and mouse controls may feel unnatural at first, but becomes intuitive over time. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave might not have been designed for this playstyle, but its implementation is impressive enough to recommend to players who find one-handed gaming more convenient.
