STFGames launched the Early Access for the cooperative escape game SOMNIUS on Steam on September 22, supporting single-player or teams of up to six. The team previously developed Rock Simulator.
The game takes place in a constantly collapsing dreamscape. Players must explore procedurally generated rooms, collect objects in an environment teeming with dangerous creatures, and convert them into portal energy to rescue the dreamer before Everythinggj vanishes.
The vacuum gun is the core tool of the game, allowing players to suck up various objects in rooms and throw them into portals to extend the team's remaining time. Players can also shoot sucked-up objects at enemies, use the vacuum gun to move and handle other situations, or even launch teammates.
Players can prioritize powering portals or use objects as weapons to block monsters. Downed teammates can be rescued, and in-game physics can be leveraged for on-the-fly solutions.
The game features proximity voice chat, meaning conversations between players can also be heard by monsters. SOMNIUS is currently available in Early Access on Steam for PC, priced at 1,050 yen, with a 38% discount until September 30, bringing the price down to 651 yen. The Early Access phase is expected to last about a year.
