Take Your Console Out for the Hunt! Capcom Emphasizes Local Co-op Experience in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds will be released on Nintendo Switch 2. Series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto stated that bringing players back together in the same location to hunt jointly is a significant aspect of this version.

Ryozo Tsujimoto mentioned that during the PSP and Nintendo 3DS era, the culture of meeting up and hunting together via local connections was deeply rooted in Japan, with similar scenes occurring in other countries and regions. He believes that many players around the world would be happy to experience this gameplay again on the Switch 2.

Switch 2 players can gather around the same table or hunt together via local wireless connection at the same location. Ryozo Tsujimoto stated that although the Switch 2 supports TV mode, it is essentially a portable device, which is why Capcom places great importance on providing this experience.

Cross-platform multiplayer further expands the ways to play together in the same space. Ryozo Tsujimoto used a family scenario as an example: a household might only have one PlayStation 5, making it impossible for another person nearby to play on the same console, but many families may own both a PlayStation 5 and a Switch 2.

In this scenario, two players in the same living room can use a PlayStation 5 and a Switch 2 respectively to hunt together via cross-platform online multiplayer. Although the two devices are not directly connected via local wireless, the actual gameplay experience is close to face-to-face local co-op.

Ryozo Tsujimoto expressed his anticipation for how this cross-platform local play style will evolve. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds has been confirmed, but no specific release date was provided in this announcement.
