Valve recently released a major update for Counter-Strike 2, introducing a new 3v3 Rush mode to the 25-year-old series, along with silent reloading, changes to the Premier mode map selection, new crosshairs, and adjustments to hit feedback.
Rush is a 3v3 mode that requires queue-based matchmaking, appearing alongside Premier, Competitive, and Wingman modes in the "Play" menu. Teams will battle across a series of randomly selected dedicated maps, each centered around an interactive, controllable "Tower."
Players must control the Tower point at the end of the round, either by eliminating opponents and pressing the button on the Tower or by maintaining control until the countdown ends. Each round lasts only 40 seconds. After winning a map, the team advances to a map closer to the enemy base; another victory secures the match. A loss causes the team to retreat toward their own side.
The map veto process in Premier mode has also changed. The old system gradually eliminated options until only one map remained; the new system has each team select two maps, with the final map randomly chosen from the four selections. Valve stated that this change aims to benefit players who invest time in studying tactics for specific maps.
This update also introduces silent reloading. Pressing R briefly performs a normal reload that produces audible sounds nearby enemies can hear; holding R initiates a slower but completely silent reload animation. The previous sound played when lowering the scope has also been removed, preventing opponents from gaining information through this audio cue.
The crosshair system now features five new styles: static circle, solid dot, dynamic cross, dynamic circle, and dynamic quadrilateral, along with a slider for crosshair color and opacity. Wall bullet holes and blood effects are also more prominent, making it easier for players to judge bullet impact points and confirm hits.
Additionally, Steam Community Group members can now set clan tags, and C4s now support sticker application. The update also includes the Starjunk 95 Music Kit.
