Steam250 Stats: Six of the Top Ten New Steam Games in 2026 Previously Used Early Access

The 2026 Steam New Releases Rating List published by Steam250 shows that six of the top ten games previously used the Early Access model and have since transitioned to version 1.0. Palworld and Valheim occupy the first and second spots on the list, respectively.

Early Access allows studios to release playable versions before a game is complete, meaning players may encounter bugs, balance issues, missing content, and mechanic adjustments. Some listed titles have followed this model for years, undergoing long-term iteration before their full release.

Steam250 does not rank games solely by positive review rate; it also weights them based on the number of reviews to prevent titles with few reviews from topping the charts based on a small number of positive ratings. Early Access titles this time surpassed traditionally released new games like Resident Evil: Requiem and Phantasmagoria.

These games often accumulate years of testing data and player feedback before their official release. Before Palworld transitioned to version 1.0, its player count had already exceeded 40 million. After the full version launched this summer, its concurrent player count on Steam reached the highest peak since its Early Access debut.

Valve defines Early Access as a tool for developers and the community to refine games together. Player feedback is not only used to find bugs, but also helps teams determine whether mechanics are effective, identify balance issues, and decide which content needs to be added, modified, or removed.

Early Access also allows games to gradually build a community and generate revenue during development, but Valve emphasizes that this model should not be used solely as a funding mechanism. The product must be playable when it goes on sale, and developers should not promise content they cannot guarantee will be completed.

This model does not guarantee a project's success. Some games may stall, change direction, or even fail to meet their original goals; Valve also reminds developers that they cannot guarantee when a work will be completed, or if it will be completed at all. This list reflects the performance of titles that have successfully transitioned to full release.
