Sony has released PS5 system update 26.06-14.00.00, with Enhanced PSSR now enabled by default on the PS5 Pro. Games that already support PSSR can use the new image processing features without requiring players to manually adjust settings.
PSSR is an image upscaling technology provided by Sony for the PS5 Pro, which uses machine learning to reconstruct high-resolution images from lower internal resolutions. Previously, players needed to manually enable Enhanced PSSR in the system settings; this update sets the option to enabled by default.
This adjustment takes effect at the system level, so developers do not need to release separate patches for existing games. It applies to games that previously supported PSSR and have a dedicated PS5 Pro mode; games that did not originally support PSSR will not gain this feature as a result.
Enhanced PSSR aims to improve texture flickering, blurriness around small text, and motion blur during rapid camera movements that may have occurred in earlier versions. It also improves the reconstruction of hair, foliage, and scene details. If individual games exhibit visual anomalies after enabling it, players can still manually disable "Improve PSSR Image Quality" under "Settings → Screen and Video → Video Output".
This update also adds other features to the PS5 series consoles. During party voice chat, the screen can display the names of currently speaking players and allow adjustments to their position; the Welcome Center also adds a community events component, showcasing popular multiplayer games or modes, as well as games with higher player counts in your region over the past week.
