Robert Downey Jr. will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday as Doctor Doom, Victor Von Doom. When asked why he was returning in a new role, he stated that what attracted him was the opportunity to "redefine the superhero movie genre."
Downey made these remarks during the Avengers: Endgame special episode of the official Avengers: Doomsday podcast. The question was posed by Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel. Downey said that this goal is highly challenging; he and Kevin Feige are both willing to take on the challenge, hoping to first create a work that excites the creative team themselves.
Avengers: Doomsday hasn't even been released yet, but its pre-sales have already broken records. Feige previously announced an adjustment to the release pace of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reducing the number of projects between this film and the subsequent Avengers: Secret Wars.
Downey's Doctor Doom will become the new adversary for the Avengers. Currently, Avengers: Endgame is being re-released in theaters worldwide, with the re-release version also featuring a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday.
