Foreign media outlet Nintenderos has selected eight companions who have journeyed with Link throughout The Legend of Zelda series, with Midna ranking first and the King of Red Lions second. The list includes fairies who point out enemy weaknesses as well as spirits inhabiting objects.
Whether saving Hyrule, battling the King of the Gerudo, or breaking ancient curses, Link's adventures are never undertaken alone. These characters not only drive the plot forward but also participate in gameplay through hints, movement, and puzzle-solving, adding dialogue and interaction to the otherwise silent protagonist.
Midna from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess takes the top spot. Initially traveling with Link for her own purposes, the princess of the Twilight Realm gradually becomes his steadfast ally. Her magic also helps Wolf Link perform area attacks and overcome obstacles. Second place goes to the King of Red Lions from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker: this talking ship carries Link across the sea, and its true identity is closely tied to the story's conclusion.
Third place goes to Princess Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. Separated from her body, she accompanies Link in spirit form and can possess armor to assist in combat and puzzle-solving.
Fourth place is Epona, who, though unable to speak, serves as Link's mount across Hyrule; the list notes that she first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Fi from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword takes fifth place. As the spirit residing in the Master Sword, she often provides Link with hints based on analysis and probability.
Navi, also from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, ranks sixth. She points out enemy weaknesses and is closely tied to the lock-on targeting mechanic.
Seventh place goes to Ciela, the Light Spirit from The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. She accompanies Link on his voyage after he falls into danger and can freeze time using the Phantom Hourglass.
Ezlo from The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap ranks eighth. Cursed into the form of a green cap, he sits on Link's head and grants him the ability to shrink.
