Former Bethesda Designer Questions Likelihood of Starfield Sequel

Former Bethesda lead systems designer Kurt Kuhlmann believes it is unlikely that Starfield will receive a sequel. Bethesda is currently focusing on the development of The Elder Scrolls VI, while still preparing DLC and updates for Starfield.

Kuhlmann left Bethesda after Starfield's release. He stated that he would be very surprised if the game truly got a sequel. In his view, Starfield was not successful enough to warrant the studio making a second installment. This is his personal judgment on the likelihood of a sequel, not an official plan announced by Bethesda.

However, Kuhlmann also believes that a sequel could achieve some of the goals originally envisioned for Starfield. He said that if the development team could learn from their experience making Starfield, the second installment might come closer to Todd Howard's initial vision for the game. Developers had previously admitted that creating such a massive sci-fi RPG exactly as they had imagined was nearly impossible for the studio.

Starfield has already received the "Free Lanes" update. Although Kuhlmann is not optimistic about a sequel, Bethesda is still preparing follow-up content for the existing game.
