CDPR Says The Witcher 4 Will Impress Players with Morally Gray Choices and Consequences

Recently, CDPR Co-CEO Adam Badowski stated that The Witcher 4 will continue to refine the series' signature morally gray narrative, aiming to leave a deep impression on players through ambiguous choices and their consequences. This direction continues the narrative style established in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

CDPR称《巫师4》将以充满道德灰度的选择及后果打动玩家

Speaking at the International Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź, Poland, Badowski discussed the development cycle, stating that the studio does not chase trends. The lengthy development time is primarily due to the team's focus on storytelling; the plot influences the entire development process from start to finish and undergoes repeated rewrites to enhance its emotional impact on players.

Discussing the specific design of The Witcher 4, Badowski stated that ambiguous choices and their consequences are intended to "leave a lasting impression on players."

No further details about The Witcher 4 were revealed at the event. Regarding the combat system, it was only stated that the new title will evolve based on the system from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The team also reiterated their reasons for switching to Unreal Engine 5.

Questions about a remake of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings also came up at the event. Badowski mentioned that Jakub Rokosz from Fool’s Theory, who is currently working on the remake of the original The Witcher, considers The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings his favorite entry in the series.
