Digital Bros has confirmed the cancellation of the RPG Armed Fantasia. Originally intended as a spiritual successor to Wild Arms, the game failed to continue development despite multiple gameplay adjustments. The company stated that gameplay adjustments, market changes, and the costs required to complete development influenced this decision.
Armed Fantasia was crowdfunded via Kickstarter in 2022, raising ¥379,328,385. The game's YouTube channel features test footage and developer interviews, but has not been updated for about three years.
Digital Bros has decided to cancel two games in total, the other being a sequel to the free-to-play title Battle Island. The company stated that both games underwent multiple attempts at gameplay improvements; after a third round of project review, the decision to terminate development was made in light of market changes.
The related decisions are also reflected in the group's financial data: Digital Bros reported a non-cash asset impairment of €18.7 million, of which €17.6 million was related to projects whose development was terminated, and approximately €1 million was due to impairment losses on game assets.
