"Nameless Me" Development Team Plans 2027 Release, Adopting Motion Capture for Yumiri Hanamori's Voice Acting

The development team for Nameless Me stated that Yumiri Hanamori's voice acting led them to adopt motion capture to capture the nuances of her performance. This adventure game, produced by Shueisha Games in collaboration with Historia, with planning and script by Takuya Yamanaka, has been delayed until 2027 and is planned for release on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and PS5.

At the Tokyo Game Show 2026, Shueisha Games set up a demo area for Nameless Me. The booth presented the game world using an elevator and walkable sets. General Producer Taichi Kawai stated that what happens inside the elevator is important in the game, so the team arranged this experience before the demo.

The game revolves around four souls within a young girl, with players making choices through dialogue. Yumiri Hanamori voices all four souls and learned the full story early in development. Director Shun Sasaki said the team recorded her voice acting first, then found that the original character animations couldn't keep up with the emotions and subtle changes in her performance, leading them to add motion capture.

The number of souls also underwent adjustments. Shun Sasaki revealed that the initial plan featured seven souls, but testers found them hard to remember; reducing it to three meant too few opportunities for individual choices, so the team finally settled on four. Takuya Yamanaka stated that the script was completely rewritten after this adjustment.

For the voice acting, the team wanted to preserve the feeling of "four souls sharing one body," and did not ask Yumiri Hanamori to differentiate the characters solely by changing her voice. She gradually fleshed out each character's speech patterns based on their individual settings; Takuya Yamanaka served as the recording director and would make on-the-spot adjustments to the lines based on her understanding of the characters.

Takuya Yamanaka also mentioned that the souls speak according to their own thoughts. The team considered adding a mechanic to detect lies through changes in eye contact but later decided to drop it. The game is currently scheduled for release in 2027.
