Penguin Colony PC Release Delayed to October 17, PS5 and Switch 2 Versions Coming in 2027

ORIGAME DIGITAL and publisher Fellow Traveller have announced that the PC (Steam) version of the cosmic horror adventure game Penguin Colony will be released on October 17 (Japan Time), about 10 days later than originally planned. PS5 and Switch 2 versions are scheduled for release in 2027. The game is led by Naftali Faulkner, creator of Umurangi Generation.

The story takes place in Antarctica in 1939. A Nazi expedition seeks to uncover the secrets of an ancient power to prove its fictitious superiority, while a Māori guardian investigation team aims to stop them and keep the ancient entity "Saman," sleeping beneath the ice, undisturbed. Players observe the actions of these two opposing factions from the perspective of a penguin.

The game is based on H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness and is also influenced by John Carpenter's film The Thing and the PS2-era horror game Siren.

During exploration, players can switch consciousness between penguins with different abilities and limitations, allowing them to pass through ice crevices inaccessible to humans, dive underwater, or slide on their bellies down slopes. Penguins have no active attack actions, and the game features an "Insight" system that alters player perception. Not all puzzles can be solved in a single playthrough.

The game does not explicitly explain all mysteries; players must understand human actions through observation and discovery. A demo is currently available on Steam, and Japanese interface and subtitles are planned for future updates.
