The State Council Information Office held a series of press conferences today on the theme "Kickstarting the 15th Five-Year Plan." Relevant officials from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology introduced efforts to fully implement the 15th Five-Year Plan and accelerate new-type industrialization.
At the press conference, it was announced that 6G development will be a top priority during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
We will accelerate breakthroughs in core 6G technologies, continuously carry out 6G technology trials and standard development, promote the maturity of the 6G industry and ecosystem building, and prepare for 6G commercialization.
Industry experts generally believe that 6G communication capabilities will be more than ten times those of 5G, with commercial deployment expected around 2030.
Previously, Ms. Si Han, President of Greater China at GSMA, stated that China is expected to become one of the leading countries in global 6G deployment, with the 6G penetration rate projected to reach 60% by 2035.
As the sixth generation of mobile communication technology, 6G will achieve comprehensive transformation based on 5G, driving communication technology from mobile terminals to various industries.
If 5G is likened to an information highway, 6G is a super intelligent network providing integrated coverage across space, air, ground, and sea. It enables comprehensive transformation beyond just speed, featuring three core capabilities:
First, 6G runs faster.
Leveraging higher frequency bands such as millimeter wave and terahertz, bandwidth can be more than ten times that of 5G.
Teams including Peking University have proposed a fiber-wireless converged communication solution, achieving seamless integration between optical fiber and terahertz wireless. With single-channel transmission rates reaching hundreds of Gbps, a 4K ultra-HD movie can be downloaded in one second. This world-leading achievement lays the foundation for the 6G speed revolution.
Secondly, 6G sees more clearly.
6G possesses ultra-high-precision sensing capabilities, with base stations integrating both communication and radar detection imaging functions. The high frequency and short wavelength of terahertz waves enable precise positioning and ranging at the sub-meter or even centimeter level.
By analyzing reflected signals, it provides more sensitive digital sensing capabilities for drones and autonomous driving, enabling precise road condition recognition and intelligent obstacle avoidance.
Finally, 6G is smarter.
Traditional networks rely on cloud processing for data, whereas 6G base stations come with local AI computing capabilities. They can independently handle data processing and intelligent decision-making, providing personalized smart services, accelerating digital and intelligent transformation across industries, and supporting self-diagnosis, self-repair, and self-optimization of the network. This aligns with the "AI+" development strategy and solidifies the foundation for the intelligent economy.
