The classic mystery adventure game "The Portopia Serial Murder Case" will be released as a remake titled "New Portopia Serial Murder Case," scheduled to launch on Switch, Switch 2, and PC on March 4, 2027, with both physical and digital versions available simultaneously.
Currently announced release information is limited to the Japanese market, and the game does not support English. It has not yet been determined whether it will be released in Western regions or launched simultaneously with Japan. Existing news also does not confirm PlayStation or Xbox versions, so console versions are currently only available on Nintendo platforms, along with a PC version.
This remake is being developed by the Japanese teams Game Studio and Room6, with G-MODE Corporation assisting in publishing. The original was created by Yuji Horii, marking his second game. It was first released on the PC-6001 in 1983 and expanded its influence after being ported to the Famicom in 1985, where it is known as the first adventure game on the system.
"The Portopia Serial Murder Case" later influenced developers such as Hideo Kojima and Eiji Aonuma, and laid the foundation for Yuji Horii's subsequent creation of "Dragon Quest." The original was published by Enix at the time, but it remains unclear whether Square Enix currently holds the relevant intellectual property rights or participated in this remake through licensing.
