According to reports, EA has removed all crossover cosmetic items related to BioWare's Mass Effect series from its first-person shooter, Battlefield 6.
X platform (formerly Twitter) user BFBulletin pointed out that after BioWare's shutdown, EA and DICE quietly removed all Mass Effect-themed cosmetics from Battlefield 6. The removed content includes player card backgrounds, weapon skins, weapon charms, weapon stickers, sprays, and soldier patches, as shown in the examples below. The user mentioned that these items were previously marked as "unobtainable" and were originally scheduled for official release in November, around N7 Day.
Following BioWare's shutdown and the cancellation of the new Mass Effect title, a user claiming to be an EA employee appeared on Reddit to engage with the community. He stated that he had seen the full trailer for Mass Effect 5 months ago and was confused by the official claim that the project was still in "early development." Subsequently, an anonymous alt account leaked the aforementioned trailer in the relevant Reddit discussion thread.
BioWare, a studio with over thirty years of experience in the gaming industry, has officially announced its closure, and early development on the next Mass Effect game has also been terminated. In their statement, the studio reflected on its journey and thanked players for their decades of support: "For over thirty years, BioWare has been more than just a studio. It has been a home for storytellers and developers, and for all the players who brought our game worlds to life."
The statement also listed several of the studio's classic IPs, including Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect. BioWare directly addressed the cessation of operations: "Now, after more than thirty years of shared adventures, BioWare is shutting down, and early development on the next Mass Effect project will come to an end."
