Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 recorded 227,622 concurrent players during its Steam launch phase, roughly double the figure for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 at its release, continuing its lead from the early access period.
Despite low expectations prior to release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has ultimately received quite favorable reviews compared to recent entries in the series, particularly Black Ops 7 and Modern Warfare 3. In fact, its launch performance on Steam suggests that sales may have doubled those of Black Ops 7.
After surpassing Black Ops 7 during early access, Modern Warfare 4 reached 227,622 concurrent players on Steam at its official launch. During Black Ops 7's debut last year, Call of Duty's peak concurrent player count was just over 100,000. This figure has seen a significant increase in just one year.
However, Modern Warfare 4's performance on Steam still falls short of Black Ops 6. The latter saw over 315,000 concurrent players at launch, making it the best-performing title among the last three Call of Duty releases.
Modern Warfare 4 has also received fairly positive player reviews so far. Many have praised IW's investment in the campaign mode, and even the DMZ mode has garnered significant praise. While the multiplayer modes in recent Call of Duty titles remain controversial, the series has undoubtedly turned things around compared to last year's entry, which faced nearly universal criticism.
