YouTube user dan2091 has recently uploaded a series of gameplay demos for a third-person mod for Deus Ex. The videos show that the project not only moves the camera behind the character but also adds new features such as dual-wielding weapons, rolling, and dive shooting. The mod is still in development.
In the demo, JC Denton can change outfits, and there are specially crafted animations for climbing ladders. The new dual-wielding system works in both first-person and third-person modes, allowing the character to fire dual pistols while performing a diving dodge.
These actions are reminiscent of Max Payne. A PC Gamer editor speculated that some of the rolling and dodging animations might have been taken directly from Max Payne or Max Payne 2, but there is no official confirmation from the developers to support this claim. It is also unconfirmed whether dan2091 is the mod creator.
The Deus Ex series has previously incorporated third-person perspectives to a limited extent: Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided switch views during cover and takedown animations, while the original game uses external cameras during dialogue scenes. Currently, neither the video description nor the channel page provides information on the developer, download method, or completion date, so it remains uncertain whether the mod will be publicly released.
