A Change.org petition calling on EA to "save Mass Effect" has surpassed 200,000 signatures. The organizers are demanding that EA make a clear commitment to continue developing the next installment or license the series to another studio.
EA plans to shut down BioWare, the studio long responsible for Mass Effect and Dragon Age, and cancel Mass Effect 5, which was first announced in 2020. More than five years after its reveal, the project has seen little substantive information, and BioWare's development team has previously undergone staff reductions.
The petition was initiated by user Joe Smith, with demands including clear commitments, sufficient funding, staffing, and production time to maintain the series' standards. If EA is unwilling to continue, the petition also requests that the company consider licensing Mass Effect to other studios.
In a letter to employees, EA stated that the company will continue to invest in sports games, Apex Legends, Battlefield, as well as upcoming action-adventure titles like the next Star Wars Jedi game and Marvel's Iron Man. While the petition cannot determine the final fate of Mass Effect, the 200,000 signatures reflect players' concentrated concerns about the future of the series.
